Weekly Art Classes
RYE VENUE
SCHEDULE (Wednesdays)
WINTER TERM:
BLOCK 1:
- Jan. 8th: Ink & Bleach or Collage if preferred (Week 1)
- Materials to bring:

If using inks without bleach, then any inks are fine, but you might like to buy a water soluble, so that they can be watered down & used in a similar way to bleach
Optional: if using bleach, Windsor & Newton Drawing inks/ & or Quink ink (both work, but Quink probably the most responsive to bleach).
Thick household bleach (can be watered down). Milton works just as wellif you have any & it doesn't have the odour of bleach.
Cartridge paper or mount board works really nicely, items to apply the ink & bleach such as, old paintbrushes (bleach will ruin the brush), nib pen, cocktail stick other mark making implements, gloves if preferred. -

If using oils or acrylics:
Stiff bristle brushes suitable for oil/acrylic. I will have some spare that can be used, but not enough for everyone, so if you have your own that will be great.
Palette (A cheap option is to use just greaseproof paper or an ordinary palette). If using greaseproof paper, you will need parcel tape to hold it down to the table, as masking tape won't stick. (A stay wet palette is great for acrylics)
Rag/s to wipe brushes
Low odour white spirit if using oils or low odour solvent such as Sansador or Zest it. Some will be available at the venue if you don't have any & a small contribution can be paid to cover the cost of what you use.
Surface suitable for oil or acrylic painting. Options would be canvas paper, canvas, canvas board, wood panel or plywood (primed with either gesso or PVA/water mix & then household emulsion). -
Oil paints. If you would like to just try out oil paints without having to go out & buy them, there will be oil paints at the venue. (A small contribution towards what you use would be great).
- Subject matter to bring:
- A photo of rain or snow. If you are new to oil or acrylic painting, I would suggest keeping it simple as possible.
