SCHEDULE (Mondays)
2024
SUMMER TERM:
BLOCK 1:
- Apr. 8th: Monoprint Drawing/s of a Still Life (Items from around the World)
- (Demo available for Monoprint drawing, but if you prefer, you can just paint or draw the still life in a medium of your choice. If doing monoprint drawing/s, you might like to embellish with acrylic or guache paint to add colour.
- Materials to bring:
- For monoprint drawing:

Pencil
Mark making & impression making objects
Masking tape
Cartridge paper
(There will be other printmaking supplies at the session for you to use such as ink, rollers & paper for printing onto. A small contribution of £1 to cover the cost of materials used would be helpful). - Optional:

Rollers (if you already have any, please bring along as the more the merrier).
Paint if adding paint to colour (acrylic or guache would work well)
Brushes (if adding paint to colour)

Disposable Gloves - Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring item/s for the still life setup with the theme around the world (Could be fabric too!!)
- Apr. 15th: Still Life (Personalised Meaningful Items)

- Materials to bring:
- Drawing or painting materials of your choice & paper to suit the medium.
- If working with oil, please make sure you are using no odour solvent such as Zest It.
- Subject matter to bring:

Please bring item/s for your own still life setup that have a personal meaning to you.
You could also bring in photos of items to add into your still life if you like.
- Apr. 22nd: In the Style of....an Impressionist Artist (Week 1)

The term 'Impressionist' was first used as an insult in response to an exhibition of new paintings in Paris in 1874. A diverse group of painters, rejected by the art establishment, defiantly set up their own exhibition. They included Monet, Renoir, Pissarro and Degas.
You can choose one of these artists or choose your own artist if you prefer to work in the style of. - Materials to bring:
- Painting materials of your choice & paper to suit the medium.
- If working with oil, please make sure you are using no odour solvent such as Zest It.
- Subject matter to bring:

Please bring an example/s of your chosen Impressionist artist to analyse. You may wish to do a copy of an impressionist painting to help study how the artist has worked. Alternatively you could create your own artwork in the style of your chosen artist by working from a photo of your choice or another piece of artwork that you have created that could be painted in an impressionist style.
- Apr. 29th: In the Style of....an Impressionist Artist (Week 2)
- An opportunity to continue from last week & develop your work or you could do another peice of work if you prefer.
- Materials to bring:
- Drawing or painting materials of your choice & paper to suit the medium.
- If working with oil, please make sure you are using no odour solvent such as Zest It.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Same as last session.
- May 6th NO CLASS, (Bank Holiday)
BLOCK 2:
- May 13th: Abstract (Week 1) (However if you prefer to work in another medium that is absolutely fine)
- There are many ways to go about creating an abstract, such as deconstructing an image, zooming in, flipping the canvas, layering componant shapes by possibly using tracing paper or layout paper One or two options can be explored with tips & guidance in this session. You may want to look at some abstract artists such as Ben Nicholson, Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Robert Delaunay, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Kline, Piet Mondrian & William Scott for example.
- Materials to bring:

Drawing/painting medium of your choice, however acrylic or oil paint would be ideal as you can make changes easily & allow your artwork to evolve.
Alternatively you could work with pencil & coloured pencils or pastels to exlpore a range of possibilities.
Paper or surface to work on appropriate for the medium that you are using.
2B pencil for tracing
Tracing paper (or greaseproof paper...not the brown one, the clearish one, works quite well)
Optional: You might like to add in a little collage into your work, so if you would like you could bring in some collage bits & bobs that's absolutely fine. - Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring photo/s & still life objects if appropriate that you think might be helpful for your ideas.
- May 20th: Abstract (Week 2)
- Materials to bring:
- Same as last session.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Same as last session.
- May 27th NO CLASS, (Bank Holiday)
- June 3rd: Artwork inspired by the word "Journey" (Week 1)
- (Any interpretation of this word is great. You may find that you might like to think about some ideas & do some sketches in preparation for this session & then develop your ideas into a piece of artwork during the session. You might find your ideas change as you go along & might be inspired by others in the group. Alternatively you may have a clear idea & go for the main artwork/s straight away).
- Materials to bring:
- Medium of your choice.
- Paper suitable for your chosen medium
- Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring photo/s & still life objects if appropriate that you think might be helpful for your ideas.
- June 10th: Artwork inspired by the word "Journey" (Week 2)
- An opportuntiy to continue developing your ideas & artwork from last week. Alternatively you could start a new piece of artwork if you prefer.
- Materials to bring:

- Same as last session.
BLOCK 3:
- June 17th: Portrait (from photo) (Week 1)
- If you prefer, you could draw other class members (they will of course move though!) or you could use a mirror to do a self-portrait
- Materials to bring:

Drawing or painting materials of your choice, although if you are a beginner, drawing would be the easiest option.
Paper/surface to suit the medium -
If working with oil, please make sure you are using no odour solvent such as Zest It
Mirror if doing a self portrait - Subject matter to bring:
- Image to work from of head & shoulders either profile or front view if you are a beginner. Please make sure that it is a clear photo & of a reasonable size to identify features well.
- June 24th: Portrait (from photo) (Week 2)
- An opportunity to continue from last session or start a new portrait if you prefer.
- Materials to bring:
- Same as last session.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Image to work from of head & shoulders either profile or front view if you are a beginner. Please make sure that it is a clear photo & of a reasonable size to identify features well.
- July 1st: Clothed/Costume Figure Drawing (from Life if enough people to cover model costs) (Week 1)

(A model will be booked for this session if there are enough people & if working from the model it will be an extra £4 for the session). Anyone who would like to work from a model would need to confirm & pay in advance to ensure of covering costs. Please confirm when booking your course.
It is absolutely fine to do your own thing if you prefer to work on something else in this session though! - Materials to bring:

Medium of your choice, but maybe drawing is the most managable in the time. However, if you would like to work in colour, a clothed model usually is fine with photos so you could continue from photo if necessary for homework or in the next session.
Camera for photographing the model (optional)

- July 8th: Clothed/Costume Figure Drawing (from Life if enough people to cover model costs) (Week 2)
