SCHEDULE (Mondays)
SUMMER TERM:
BLOCK 1:
- Apr. 13th: Ink & Bleach
- Materials to bring:
-
If using inks without bleach, if you use a water soluble ink, they can be watered down & used in a similar way to bleach
Optional: if using bleach, Windsor & Newton Drawing inks/ & or Quink ink (both work, but Quink is the most responsive to bleach).
Thick household bleach (can be watered down). Milton works well with Quink instead of using bleach if you prefer & it doesn't have the odour of bleach. Milton doesn't work well with Windsor & Newton Drawing inks however.
Cartridge paper or mount board works really nicely, items to apply the ink & bleach such as, old paintbrushes (bleach will ruin the brush), nib pen, cocktail stick other mark making implements, gloves if preferred.if - Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring photo/s or still life objects if you think might be helpful & appropriate.
- Images below by student's in a previous ink & bleach class to give an idea of what you could do with ink & bleach.
- Apr. 20th: Still Life (All White Objects)
- Materials to bring:
- Medium of your choice & paper to suit medium.
- Subject matter to bring:
- White objects (or mainly white) (could include china) to add to the Still Life setup or a photo of an all white objects still life
- Apr. 27th: Night/Twilight Scene (Indoors or outdoors) (Week 1)
- Materials to bring:
- Optional: Soft pastels or oil pastels would work well & paper to suit. (A dark paper would work really well).
- Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring a photo of a night/twilight scene (it can be either indoors or outdoors)
- May 4th NO CLASS, Bank Holiday
- May 11th: Night/Twilight Scene (Indoors or outdoors) (Week 2)
- Materials to bring:
- Same as last session
- Subject matter to bring:
- Same as last session
BLOCK 2:
- May 18th: Fabric (folds in fabric)
- Materials to bring:
- Medium of your choice & paper to suit medium.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring a photo of some fabric with folds or some fabric that you can study & work from.
- May 25th NO CLASS, Bank Holiday
- June 1st: Washing on a line
- Materials to bring:
- Medium of your choice & paper to suit medium.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Please bring a photo of some washing on a line or some fabric that you can study & work from. (We might be able to rig up a washing line in the class room possibly? We can try!)....
- June 8th: Clothed Model Drawing (Week 1) (working from a clothed model if enough people attending the session or from photo if not)
- (A model will be booked for this session if enough people are interested & if working from the model it will be an extra £5.50 for the session). However, it is absolutely fine to do your own thing if you prefer to work on something else in this session.

- June 15th: Clothed Model Drawing (Week 2) (working from a clothed model if enough people attending the session or from photo if not)

BLOCK 3:
- June 22nd: Mixed Media (Using a variety of mediums) (Week 1)
- Some artists that you might like to look at that have used mixed media in their artwork are Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Pablo Picasso, George Braque & Robert Rauchenberg.
- Materials to bring:

A range of different mediums of your choice to try out together. This will be an experimantal session that you will get ideas as you go along & be inspired by other in the class too.
Just as a few starter ideas, you could try out acrylic with gel pens, acrylic markers, Posca markers, acrylic & pastel, you could add in glitter if you like or use watercolour, pens & pastels or combinations from this list. The possibilities are vast though, so feel free to bring in anything you have to give it a go.
You could include some collage too if you like & if so, if you could bring in some collage bits & bobs & a glue stick or PVA glue. - Subject matter to bring:
- Photo/s or you may have drawings a sketchbook or you might prefer to do a still life. If you decide to do a still life, you could bring in some still life objects to work from. Alternatively, you can work from your imagination & let your image evolve if you prefer.
- June 29th: Mixed Media (Week 2)
- Same as last session.
- Materials to bring:
- Same as last session.
- Subject matter to bring:
- Same as last session.
- July 6th: Abstract (week 1)
- There are many ways to go about creating an abstract, such as deconstructing an image, zooming in, flipping the canvas, layering componant shapes by possibly using tracing paper or layout paper One or two options can be expolored with tips & guidance in this session. To prepare for this session, you may want to look at some abstract artists such as Ben Nicholson, Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Robert Delaunay, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Kline, Piet Mondrian & William Scott for example. You may wish to bring in some images of abstract artwork also, to enrich the session.
- Materials to bring:

Drawing/painting medium of your choice, however acrylic or oil paint would be ideal as you can make changes easily & allow your artwork to evolve.
Paper or surface to work on appropriate for the medium that you are using.
2B pencil for tracing
Tracing paper
Optional: You might like to add in a little collage into your work, so if you would like you could bring in some collage bits & bobs (including glue). - Subject matter to bring:
- Your own choice of subject matter. Please bring reference photos/objects etc. to work from.
