AUTUMN TERM:

BLOCK 1:

  • Sept. 21st: Expressive Drawing in pencil or graphite (Garden Theme)
  • Materials to bring:
  • Pencil or Graphite
    (If your graphite is water soluble, you could use it with water & move it around on the surface with a brush)
    Cartridge paper (suitable for taking some water if you are planning to use water soluble graphite)
    Eraser
  • Subject matter to bring:
  • Garden theme photo/s.
  • Sept. 28th: Expressive Drawing in charcoal (Footwear)
  • Materials to bring:
  • Charcoal
    Cartridge paper
    Eraser
  • Subject matter to bring:
  • Photo/s of footwear or footwear for a still life setup
  • Oct. 5th: Trees (Week 1)(Any medium, however you might like to try line & wash or gouache if you would like to give it a go)
  • Materials to bring:
  • Medium of your choice
    Paper suitable for your chosen medium
    Brushes/palette if necessary for your chosen medium

    If using line & wash:
    Black biro works really well with line & wash or a fine liner if you prefer. (Waterproof pens are best, although a non-waterproof pen can create interesting effects if you wish to experiment)
    Watercolours
    Watercolour brush/es
    Watercolour paper or cartridge paper that is suitable for taking some water
    A ceramic plate can be used from the kitchen as a palette or bring your own if you prefer

BLOCK 2:

  • Nov. 9th: Artwork inspired by the word "Evening" (Indoors or outdoors) (Week 1)

  • Nov 16th: Artwork inspired by the word "Evening" (Indoors or outdoors) (Week 2)

BLOCK 3:

  • Nov. 23rd: Monoprinting (Week 1)
  • A monoprint is a unique piece of artwork created by a printing method (of which there are many). Examples below of student's monoprints. As there are so many methods & only limited time, on this session we will be focusing on a three colour print such as the examples on the bottom row & third in from the left on the top row.
  • For some monoprinting methods, you can use a pasta machine. There will be one at the venue to use in this session.
  • Materials to bring:
  • Black marker pen or similar (needs to be black to see through the ink)
    Pen
    Pencil
    Mark making & impression making objects (to make marks into the ink)
    Cotton buds
    Masking tape
    Rags
    Ruler
    Images &/or objects to use to draw (if wanting to create your own images). Alternatively, there will be a couple of simple template drawings to use if you prefer.
    Paper (nothing special needed, just some cartridge would be fine. 1 piece of A4 sufficient to create an underlying drawing as a guide for your print)
    Inks (oil based), paper for printing onto, & printing plates will all be supplied & just a small contribution (such as £2 for materials would be fine).
  • Optional:
  • Tracing paper
    Rubber Rollers (if you already have any, please bring along as the more the merrier). Palette knives
    Brushes (stiff bristle)
    Notebook
    Gloves
    Newspaper to cover the table
  • Subject matter to bring:
  • Please bring a photo/s & or a still life object if appropriate that you think might be helpful, but you might like to work from your imagination & do something more abstract.
  • Nov 30th: Monoprinting (Week 2)
  • Materials to bring:

  • Dec. 7th: In the Style of....a Pop Art Artist (Week 1)
  • Pop art began in the 1950s and flourished in the 1960s in Britain and America, expanding out to other countries & cultures during the 1960's and 70's. Pop Art drew inspiration from popular and commercial culture.

  • Materials to bring:
  • Painting materials of your choice
    Paper to suit the medium
    Brushes/palette if necessary for your chosen medium
  • If using collage:
    Glue or glue stick
    Materials to collage with. For example, newspaper/magazines/coloured paper, cardboard packaging
    Sharp scissors &/or craft knife
    A spatula or similar to apply glue
  • Subject matter to bring:

  • Please bring example/s of your chosen Pop Art artist to analyse. You may wish to do a copy of a Pop Art painting to help study how the artist has worked.
    Alternatively you could create your own artwork in the style of your chosen artist by working from photo/s to help you put together your idea for your artwork.
